Compensation: $55,000 – $70,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Scientist to join our National Laboratories team in Saskatoon. Reporting to the Director of National Laboratories, this role supports the delivery of the Institute’s technical services, consulting projects, research initiatives, and radiation safety programs. The successful candidate will work closely with Institute scientists and technical staff to maintain high standards of scientific quality, accuracy, and client service across a range of laboratory and field activities.
This position contributes to several core National Laboratories programs, including personal alpha dosimetry, instrument testing and calibration, sealed source leak testing, radon measurement services, advanced radiation measurement services, consulting services, and technical program development. The role also supports radiation safety training activities and applied health physics projects for clients across Canada.
We’re looking for a detail-oriented scientist with strong technical expertise in radiation safety and health physics, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to quality. The successful candidate will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, managing multiple priorities, and contributing to the ongoing development of the Institute’s laboratory and technical service programs.
In the performance of duties, the Scientist will work with radioactive sources. The Institute will provide laboratory safety, radiation safety, and workplace training for the successful applicant.
This is a genuine new position, created to support the continued evolution of the National Laboratories and its technical service programs. The role will help expand the Institute’s scientific capacity, support quality and operational initiatives, and contribute to the ongoing development of laboratory services and capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Physics, Health Physics, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience
- Strong understanding of radiation physics and radiation safety principles
- Experience with radiation instrumentation
- Minimum three years of operational experience in Health Physics
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience working within quality management systems and a commitment to quality and accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet specified work outcomes and deadlines
- Legally entitled to work in Canada on an ongoing basis
- Valid driver’s licence
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- Experience with radiation dosimetry, instrument calibration, or radon-related services
- Experience working with radioactive sources in laboratory or operational environments
- Experience supporting technical services, consulting projects, or applied health physics programs
- Experience preparing technical reports and contributing to laboratory quality systems, accreditation activities, research initiatives, or program development
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $55,000 – $70,000 per year, depending on education and experience
