Radiation Scientist
Location: Toronto, Ontario (National Office and Training Centre)
Employment Type: Full-time, permanent
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, 2 days per week in office; some travel throughout the year

Compensation: $75,000 – $82,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience

About the Role
We are growing our Toronto team and adding a new Radiation Scientist position. This role will work closely with our Director of Education, supporting both real-time (in-class) and eLearning radiation safety course offerings. The role will also build a working knowledge of the broader Radiation Scientist function, including field surveys, technical reporting, and client consultation, so the team has flexibility and depth across its programs.
We’re looking for a self-starter who is flexible, responsible, and comfortable presenting in front of a class, both online and in person. As subject-matter experts, our scientists lead all content, training, and technical work. You’ll have the opportunity to be trained and to grow within the organization as you build expertise in radiation safety science and education. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
This is a genuine new position, created to support the continued growth of our education programs and consulting services. It is not a replacement for an existing role.
What You’ll Do
- Support the Director of Education in the delivery and ongoing development of in-class radiation safety courses and curricula
- Assist in the development and maintenance of eLearning courses and platforms
- Provide backup support for training course logistics
- Build familiarity with radiation, X-ray, and electromagnetic field measurement and survey work, supporting colleagues as needed
- Assist clients with CNSC license applications, radiation safety protocols, and manuals
- Produce clear, accurate technical reports based on survey data and scientific analysis
- Participate in scientific and technical meetings to support program development and continuous improvement
- Respond to public and technical inquiries about radiation safety and radiation exposure
- Contribute content to the Institute’s social media
- Stay current with evolving standards, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments relevant to radiation safety
- Perform other scientific/technical duties as required
Required Qualifications
- M.Sc. in physics or a related field
- Familiarity with radiation physics
- Demonstrated ability or aptitude for teaching and presenting educational or training material of a scientific nature, in person and online
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat applications
- Legally entitled to work in Canada on an ongoing basis
- Valid driver’s licence
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- Specialization in health, medical, nuclear, laser, or applied physics or nuclear engineering
- Experience in scientific data analysis
- Experience writing technical reports and publications
- Experience with eLearning development or learning management systems
- Familiarity with CNSC licensing procedures
- Experience in teaching or training administration
- Basic coding or web design skills (e.g., HTML/CSS)
- Bilingual (English/French) is an asset but not required
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $75,000 – $82,000 per year, depending on education and experience
