The Radiation Safety Institute of Canada is looking for a Senior Scientist to drive the scientific development of the Institute, champion radiation safety agenda in Canada and beyond, and contribute to the growth of the organization.
Our future Senior Scientist is an experienced professional with a graduate degree in Medical or Health Physics (PhD is an asset) or in a related field and a recognized reputation for scientific integrity. We are looking for an applicant who is highly knowledgeable in the field of radiation science, with at least 10 years of practical field experience. We are looking for entrepreneurial spirit, project management as well as strong communications and interpersonal skills.
This full-time position is based in Toronto. Some travel will be required. We work in a hybrid model with 2 days in the office and 3 from home.
Job Description
Reporting to the President and CEO, Senior Scientist will lead key scientific and technical work of the Institute. They will manage the RSIC consulting roster, allocate resources as required and work in collaboration with the team at the National Laboratories in Saskatoon. Senior Scientist will be responsible for radiation safety projects. Senior Scientist will represent the Institute as a senior technical person.
Key Responsibilities
- ensure scientific integrity, quality, and delivery of the RSIC projects (these may include: RP program review and development, licencing support, shielding design and calculations, NORM consulting, X-Ray safety advice, contributions to the CNSC public hearing, outreach to workplace, public awareness building and policy work)
- assist with teaching of radiation safety courses
- respond to public and media enquiries related to radiation safety
- actively seek new products and services, prepare project proposals and quotes
- provide scientific advice to the President and CEO, the Board and CFO
- prepare, review and/or contribute to various reports (e.g. to the Board of Governors, clients and Grant Providers), media articles and technical papers
- as key member of the management team, will also be responsible for business development and organizational growth initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Minimum M.Sc. degree in Medical or Health physics or closely related field (PhD is an asset)
- Minimum of ten years experience in a related field including several years of management and supervisory experience
- Business development / grant proposal development experience
- Expert knowledge in the field of radiation science
- Strong working knowledge of the instrumentation used in the measurement of radiation
- Strong project leadership skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical skills
- Proficient in delivering educational presentations and formal training material
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications, in particular, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
- English essential
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in writing technical reports, publications and grant proposals
- Bilingual (English/French) is an asset
- Radiation Safety networks and connections
